How to reach Kaiserslautern University of Technology

By plane: Kaiserslautern is surrounded by three airports: Frankfurt/Main, Frankfurt/Main-Hahn and Zweibrücken. As most of you will arrive in Frankfurt/Main, the route description is given for this airport only. Frankfurt/Main airport is approx. 1,5-2 hours by car away from Kaiserslautern. If you use the car, follow either the street signs to Mainz and then the highway A63 to Kaiserslautern or alternatively follow highway A67 to Mannheim and change there to highway A6 till you reach Kaiserslautern. You might also use trains which is also very simple. Check on the following page the possible connections: English homepage of "Deutsche Bahn" (German Rail). The train station is directly at the airport at Terminal 1 but take care whether you have to go to "Fernbahnhof" (probably) or "Regionalbahnhof".

By train/bus: trains going from Frankfurt/Main to Kaiserslautern usually go via Mannheim. Probably you have to change your train there. After arriving in Kaiserslautern train station, you might use bus line number 5 to go directly to the university. A connection is available during daytime every half an hour (usually at 21 past and 51 past). A single ticket costs 1,30 Euro. A dayriders ticket costs 4 Euros and 6,50 Euros for groups, respectively (a group starts with two people). More information about the bus system (in English also) can be found here. The bus stop is "Uni Ost" (at the corner of Erwin-Schrödinger-Straße and Gottlieb-Daimler-Straße). From there you have to go uphill to reach building 56 (the labs of the Magnetism group are on the 4th floor) and building 58 (where the meeting will be held).

The hotel: The hotel is "Hotel Zollamt" in Kaiserslautern, Buchenlochstr. 1, between the train station and the university campus. If you want to go from the university to the hotel, please follow the way marked in red in the map till Buchenlochstraße, then follow this street (approx. 10 min. by walking).

The Department of Physics is situated in building 46, follow the blue way if you want to go there, the restaurant "Sommerhaus" is marked with the green circle in the map.
